Sri Lanka’s first capital



Anuradhapura is Sri Lanka’s first capital. It is situated 250km from Colombo. It is the most ancient and most famous of the ruined cities of Sri Lanka.
This city was founded by king Pandukabhaya in 437 B.C.  Anuradhapura is a sacred city because the sacred Boo Tree, Ruwanweliseya,  Jethawana Dageba, Buddha statues and other holy objects are found here. There are large tanks built by ancient Sinhala kings and many other ruins here. Hundred of tourists visit this ancient city throughout  the year.
